January 27, 1998

St. Francis High quarterback Kjell Nesen has committed to Washington State and teammate and tailback Darius Brown has committed to Iowa.

Brown rushed for 1,381 yards and 14 touchdowns.

BASKETBALL

Greco update: Michelle Greco, Crescenta Valley's All-American girls' basketball player, is listed day-to-day, with a strained right quadriceps muscle.

The UCLA-bound guard sat out the Falcons' Pacific League victory over Hoover Friday and was hampered during a 70-49 loss Saturday to Buena.

Greco was to undergo ultrasound therapy during the week. Crescenta Valley (16-2) will not play again until Friday against Pasadena.

Tough loss: Thousand Oaks point guard Melissa Simonetti, who is averaging 10 points but has missed seven games because of an injured left knee, may not play again this season.

"Even if she were cleared to play, it would take her some time to get back into basketball shape," Coach Chuck Brown said.
