Library Officially Opens to Public

January 31, 1998|FRANK MESSINA

About 80,000 books are on the shelves, and the only task remaining today is to officially open the doors of the Aliso Viejo Library for the first time.

Dedication of the 25,000-square-foot library will take place at 1 p.m. for a young community eager for its first county branch.

"We've had our doors open to let construction workers in," branch librarian Carin Sung said. "People have been coming around and looking on their own. This one man sat down and started using a computer. . . . He didn't know we weren't open yet."

County Librarian John M. Adams and Supervisor Thomas W. Wilson will be among those attending the ceremony. After the formalities, employees will get right to the business of running a library, including music and storytelling programs.

The library, which includes rows of computers and plans for a coffee shop, will be open Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be closed Sundays. The library is at 1 Journey, near Pacific Park Drive.
