1997 Etude Pinot Noir Rose, Napa Valley. (About $14)

July 01, 1998|S. IRENE VIRBILA

A dry rose is a versatile choice for warm-weather drinking, especially if it's as pretty as this pale rose-coral Pinot Noir made by winemaker-consultant Tony Soter under his own label. It has a delightful scent of rose petals and a finish of clean bright fruit. It's good with little toasts spread with tapenade, with prosciutto and melon or figs, or as an aperitif. But you can also drink it with pleasure throughout the meal. Serve it, of course, chilled.

Incidentally, the 1996, which is also very good, is still around too.
