Peter Hudnut, a senior at Harvard-Westlake High, has been selected to the U.S. Junior National team.

Hudnut is one of only two high school students on the 13-member team made up mostly of college freshmen and sophomores.

"It's a real, real big deal," Harvard-Westlake Coach Rich Corso said.

The Junior National team will play in the Pan American Junior Championships on July 20-26 in Cuba.

Gilbert Arenas of Grant edged Devin Montgomery of San Fernando, 11-10, in the one-on-one championship game of the War on the Floor competition Sunday.

Arenas also won the three-point competition, sinking 11 in 48 seconds.

Scott Borchart of Chaminade, the region's top freshman player last season, has undergone knee surgery to repair torn cartilage and will be sidelined until August.

Bob Webb, the girls' coach at Montclair Prep, has agreed to take over the boys' program. He replaces Greg Patterson, who resigned.

Longtime Mountie coach Howard Abrams will continue to assist Webb.

Webb, who played at UCLA, coached the boys' team until switching to girls.

Seniors Woody Cliffords of El Camino Real High and Chris Martinez of Chaminade and junior pitchers Mike Kunes of Chatsworth and Jordan Olson of Crescenta Valley received honorable mention on the USA Today high school All-American team.
