Sage Has Eight RBIs But Saugus Loses, 16-14

Ryan Sage went four for five and drove in eight runs for Saugus, but Sunland Tujunga Verdugo Hills rallied for seven runs in the last two innings and won, 16-14, in a District 20 game Saturday at Saugus High.

Sage hit a two-run home run in the first inning, a run-scoring single in the second, a grand slam in the third, and had an RBI double in the fifth inning. He grounded out in the sixth and scored three runs.

West Hills Chaminade 5, Woodland Hills Taft 4--Jeff Hynick had a run-scoring, bases-loaded groundout to drive in pinch-hitter Bob Berger with the winning run from third base with one out in the top of the eighth inning of West Hills Chaminade's District 20 victory at Chaminade High.

North Hollywood Poly 7, Encino Crespi 3--Angel Espindola allowed just two earned runs in a complete-game victory for North Hollywood Poly in a District 20 game at Valley College.

Espindola (2-1) allowed 10 hits, struck out four and did not walk a batter. Alberto Flores had two hits for North Hollywood Poly.

El Camino Real 10, North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake 1--Brian Somoza and Kirt Birkins each hit home runs for Woodland Hills El Camino Real in a District 20 game at El Camino Real High.

Somoza hit his fourth homer in the sixth inning. Birkins' third homer came in the first. Both players had two hits. Conor Jackson added three hits and two RBIs for Woodland Hills El Camino Real (15-2).

Woodland Hills El Camino Real 12, Van Nuys Birmingham 2--Jesse Dechter and Sean McElroy each had three hits for Woodland Hills El Camino Real in a District 20 game at El Camino Real High.

Birkins hit a grand slam to highlight a five-run first inning and Woody Cliffords had a two-run homer in the second.The game was called after six innings because of the 10-run rule.

Palmdale 8, Antelope Valley 6--Mark Hendricks hit a three-run home run in the third inning to wipe out a 3-1 deficit and put Palmdale ahead for good in a District 20 game at Antelope Valley College.

Studio City Sylmar 11, Valencia 4--Daniel Santos and Jordan Plascencia each had three hits and two RBIs for Studio City Sylmar in a District 20 victory at Sylmar High.

Sam Ponce (1-0) pitched a complete game for the win and also helped himself with two hits and two runs scored.

Camarillo A 8, Conejo 0--Joe Yingling had a run-scoring double and a home run for Camarillo A in Camarillo tournament pool play.

Camarillo will play for the championship today at 11:30.
