1 Killed, 3 Injured in Garage Shooting

July 07, 1998

One woman was killed and three men were wounded Monday when a gunman burst into a residential garage and opened fire, police said.

Sheneake Spillman, 24, of Long Beach, died at St. Mary's Medical Center after being shot twice in the chest around 2:30 a.m., Long Beach Police Officer Maria Lopez said.

The three men also were taken to St. Mary's, where doctors operated on two for serious but not life-threatening wounds, Lopez said. The third man was treated and released, she said. Their names were not immediately available.

The four victims were inside the garage of a home in the 1400 block of 15th Street when the gunman entered through a side door and began shooting, Lopez said. Neighbors told police they heard 10 to 20 shots.

A nearby patrol officer also heard the gunfire and arrived within a minute of the shooting, but the gunman had escaped, Lopez said. Authorities had no leads on the gunman's identity or motive. Anyone with any information is asked to call Long Beach police at (562) 570-7244.
