* One day after USMedia Group, a division of Missouri-based Central Valley Publishing bought West Coast Community Newspapers, a unit of New Zealand's Independent Newspapers Ltd., and its printing business in San Diego County, it shut down a group of newspapers, giving about a dozen workers half a day's pay and pink slips. USMedia said the company had planned to sell the Sun weeklies, but the deal fell through at the last minute. More cuts were expected. Three of the 13 West Coast Community weeklies will remain open. They serve La Jolla, Chula Vista and Coronado.
