City Welcomes Chapter of Sorority With 'Youth' Day

To welcome a new professional group into town, the mayor recently declared today "Youth Take Priority" day.

Alpha Delta is the new Orange County chapter of the Beta Pi Sigma Sorority, Inc., Beta Pi Sigma is a national women's business and professional organization, which aims to provide college scholarships for high school students from low-income families.

The group's national officers and local civic leaders are holding an initiation ceremony this afternoon at the Costa Mesa Country Club.

"New members must share our desire to assist local youth," said Rosemary Agnew-White, a sorority member from Santa Ana.

Students interested in scholarships from the group must fill out an application at their school. Financial need, grades and community service will be taken into consideration.
