46 Injured; 12 Hospitalized After Two Buses Collide

July 22, 1998

One Foothill Transit bus rear-ended another Tuesday evening in downtown Los Angeles, injuring 46 people, 12 of whom were taken to hospitals.

Two people were listed in serious condition and the others suffered minor injuries, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells said.

After the accident, which occurred at 1st and Hope streets during the evening rush hour, firefighters treated 33 people at the scene for minor injuries.

"The damage to the buses was fairly minor," said Los Angeles Police Lt. Donald Brady. "But the buses were filled with people so there were lots of cuts and bruises."
