2 Men Charged in Videotaping of Children at Raging Waters

July 30, 1998

Two men videotaping young swimmers have been charged with annoying or molesting minors in unrelated incidents at Raging Waters, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office said Wednesday.

Gordon Ecker, 58, of Burbank and Dion Castaneda, 30, of Santa Paula face misdemeanor charges that could land them in jail for a year, said Sandi Gibbons, spokeswoman for the district attorney.

Ecker was arrested June 13 and Castaneda June 22 after being apprehended by park security, Sheriff's Sgt. Robert Dearmore said. Both were booked and released to appear in Pomona Municipal Court later this month, he said.

Both men allegedly carried video cameras at hip level and casually walked around the water park. "They just turned their cameras on at the hip and videotaped young boys and girls in the genital and buttocks area in their wet bathing suits," Dearmore said.

Raging Waters officials noted that it was park security that detained both men, and called the arrests minor, isolated incidents.
