D.A. Division Officer Guilty in Records Case

July 31, 1998|JOHN POPE

A former officer in the Orange County district attorney's Family Support Division has pleaded guilty to charges of releasing confidential medical information to the owner of a Medi-Cal clinic.

Chariya Jalallian, 36, faces as much as one year in County Jail and fines under a plea agreement reached in Long Beach Municipal Court. She is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 17.

Narin Long, owner of New Life Medical Clinic at 1909 Atlantic Ave. in Long Beach, is facing felony charges of conspiring to remove and possess records containing confidential information regarding Medi-Cal beneficiaries.

After an investigation by the state attorney general's bureau of Medi-Cal fraud, officials alleged Long was creating fictional patient files to fabricate billings.

Records supplied by Jalallian contained information needed to bill the Medi-Cal program, officials said.

Jalallian worked as a family support officer from April 1990 until her resignation last month.
