Undulations

June 06, 1998|CYNDI Y. NIGHTENGALE

The soft sloping curves of Thayer Coggin's latest Studio II collection catch the wave of the future.

Moving in the direction of relaxed living, this 12-piece collection designed by Ransom Culler exemplifies easy style with a hint of drama from the past.

The sofa ($5,225) has romantic curves that accentuate comfort zones. The sofa's arm and leg treatments give it a contemporary edge.

The lounge chair ($2,625) has architecturally clean lines, along with overstuffed cushions for comfort.

Legs for the sofa and chairs are available in wood, lacquers and brushed metals, with several fabric and leather upholstery options.

Knitwear

These sheets will fit your bed to a tee.

Knit sheets, extremely popular because of their softness and comfort (Oprah Winfrey says she won't put anything else on her bed), are the focus of the Land's End Coming Home catalog.

Land's End, long known for its knit clothing, now has several styles and patterns of knit bedding available. Two of the newest patterns for the summer are Petite Pansies, a print features colorful pansies, and Window Garden, which will be available in July.

The linens, which feel like a favorite T-shirt, are made of combed cotton and a wider cloth; no one has to sleep on a seam. The fitted sheets have 14-inch pockets and elastic all the way around.

The sheets never need ironing; they stay cool in the summer and feel warm in cooler months. Prices range from about $29 for a twin to about $64 for a king-size sheet.

Bug Off

Don't let pests ruin your picnic.

Off's Mosquito Coil keeps a 10-foot by 10-foot area virtually bug-free for as long as four hours, according to the manufacturer. The coil, which sits in a decorative terra-cotta holder, is pleasantly scented.

The starter pack, which includes holder and four coils, sells for about $6. A refill pack of four coils is about $3.

The coils can be found at Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Kmart and other retailers where insect repellents are sold.
