June 13, 1998|LISA RICHARDSON

Ending a five-year hiatus, the Multicultural Arts Council of Orange County today revives the Kaleidoscope Festival.

The festival caps nearly two weeks of concerts and activities marking the debut of Pier Plaza, an open-air venue on the north side of Huntington Beach Pier.

Sixteen cultural pavilions, the main feature of the event, will display costumes, instruments, artifacts and ceremonial objects from a variety of cultures.

Groups hosting pavilions include the Iranian Cultural Center of Orange County, the International Thai Leadership Council, the Vietnamese Community of Orange County and the Irish Arts Council.

Kaleidoscope runs today and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Pier Plaza, on Pacific Coast Highway and Main Street. Admission is free. Hotline: (714) 473-1777 Ext. 2.

Shuttle service is provided from parking lots at Huntington Beach City Hall, 200 Main St.; Seacliff Shopping Center, Main Street and Yorktown Avenue; and Huntington Beach High School, Adams Avenue and 17th Street.
