Camarillo's ACT Networks Opens Office in Beijing

June 16, 1998|BARBARA MURPHY

ACT Networks in Camarillo has opened an office in Beijing.

The company has been actively involved in the Asia-Pacific market for a number of years, in particular Korea, Japan, Australia and India.

"The opening of our Beijing office is proof positive of ACT's commitment to this potentially vast market," said Steven Chou, ACT's manager for China. "By establishing a presence in Beijing, ACT will pursue more sales opportunities while supporting our customers. While there is significant turmoil in sectors of the Asian marketplace today, there are also significant opportunities, especially in the fast-growing China market."

Company officials also announced that Tokyo-based Nippon Telephone and Telegraph's business communications division has signed a contract with Takachiho Koheki, ACT's distributor in Japan, to resell ACT's products to its enterprise customers.

The contract will begin with the installation of the first ACT-based network sold by NTT in August. The customer, an electronic component manufacturer based in Chiba, Tokyo, will use NTT's public-frame relay service and ACT's NetPerformer products to provide voice and data communications between corporate headquarters and multiple remote locations.

ACT Networks develops and manufactures wide-area network access products.
