Seminars for Community Policing Efforts Scheduled

June 16, 1998

Deputies from the Carson Sheriff's Station and local leaders are teaming up at a training seminar this week to learn how to police their streets more effectively.

"We're trying to get everyone involved, from business leaders to street sweepers," said Deputy Jim Hellmold of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. "We want to enhance cooperative efforts between public and private agencies."

The weeklong course is part of the federally funded Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program, which selected the unincorporated Carson area as the pilot site of its community leadership course.

The seminar will include courses on the neighborhood watch program, eviction policies, graffiti removal efforts and cleaning up streets, Hellmold said.
