Carr Gets Motor Running Again

June 18, 1998

Thirteen months after retiring from baseball at the age of 19, Tim Carr (Westlake High) made a triumphant return, striking out one and allowing one hit over two shutout innings in relief Tuesday in Class-A Pittsfield's 4-3 victory over Lowell in 12 innings.

Carr was a 35th-round draft pick of the New York Mets in 1996.

Triple A--Second baseman Steve Sisco (Thousand Oaks High) hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth to lift Omaha over Tucson, 7-4. . . . Russ Ortiz (Montclair Prep) struck out 12 and gave up six hits in 6 2/3 innings for Fresno in a 3-2 victory over Salt Lake City and is 3-0. . . . Third baseman Torey Lovullo (Montclair Prep) had two hits, including a home run, and two runs batted in for Buffalo in a 9-3 victory over Norfolk.

Double A--Shortstop David Lamb (Newbury Park) had two hits for Bowie in a 5-4 victory over Norwich. . . . First baseman Jon Tucker (Chatsworth) had two hits, including a home run, in San Antonio's 9-6 loss to Wichita.

Class A--Left-fielder Bryan Warner (Glendale College) had three hits in Salem's 3-2 loss to Danville. . . . Chris Garza (Notre Dame) pitched two scoreless innings in relief in Fort Myers' 8-7 loss to Dunedin.

SUNS

Pacific (7-16) had only four hits, but scored twice in the top of the sixth to defeat the Bend (Ore.) Bandits, 2-1, on Wednesday night.
