Mosquito District Gets Wiped Out

June 19, 1998|REGINA HONG

The bugs can take a breather now that the Moorpark Mosquito Abatement District--in charge of controlling the town's mosquitoes and flies for 37 years--has been exterminated.

The Local Agency Formation Commission voted this week to disband the district, following the district's decision last year to put itself out of business.

With the commission's 6-1 vote Wednesday, Moorpark can take charge of the pest-control operation as early as July, city officials said.

It also means Moorpark will get its share of the $1.4 million in assessments that the district had accumulated over the years. The sum will be divided, with the city receiving 91% and the county 9%.

The Ventura County Board of Supervisors will decide July 7 whether to approve the dissolution.
