New Name Heralds Expanded Classes

June 20, 1998|MIMI KO CRUZ

The old Adult Continuing Education Division of the North Orange County Community College District has been given a new name in an effort to attract more students: School of Continuing Education.

"We're trying to expand the image and make it more attractive to a broader range of people," Provost W. Gary McGuire said.

He added that the new name is more fitting because the school's programs are offered to people of all ages--not just adults. Some of the programs include children's courses, parenting classes, various vocational certificates and a number of recreational courses.

About 40,000 students are enrolled in the different programs, which also include adult high school.

The courses are offered at more than 150 sites in North County, including nursing homes, senior citizen clubs, community centers, elementary and high schools, Cypress and Fullerton colleges and hospitals.
