$92,915 Grant to Bolster Campus Recycling Program

June 25, 1998

Cal State Dominguez Hills was awarded a $92,915 grant by the Department of Conservation to augment its recycling program, officials announced.

The funds will be used to expand the aluminum can collection program on campus to include plastic and glass bottles, campus officials said.

Additionally, money generated from the sale of recyclables is expected to go toward the Presidential Scholarship Fund, which provides $2,000 a year to selected students for education expenses.

"The university will divert a significant amount of waste that is automatically taken to already overburdened landfills," said Marsha Enriquez, campus recycling coordinator. "At the same time, the more the campus recycles, the more revenue it generates, meaning more money for the Presidential Scholarship Fund."
