Newhall-Saugus Hart Flies to an 8-7 Victory in Seventh

John Bourg's sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Newhall-Saugus Hart an 8-7 victory over Woodland Hills El Camino Real in an American Legion District 20 baseball game Thursday night at Hart High.

Jamie Shields (5-1) scattered nine hits for Newhall-Saugus Hart (11-4), striking out 12.

Kurt Birkins started and struck out nine and walked five in 5 2/3 innings for Woodland Hills El Camino Real (8-2), but did not get a decision.

Adam Sperling (2-1) came on in the sixth and took the loss.

Ryan Haag had three hits and scored three runs for Newhall-Saugus Hart.

Justin Wiley hit a bases-empty home run for Newhall-Saugus Hart.

Conor Jackson had three hits and one RBI and Matt Schwartz had two hits and drove in a run for Woodland Hills El Camino Real, which played most of the game without Coach Rob Bumgarner, who was ejected in the second inning for arguing a call.

Central Valley Cleveland 3, Encino Crespi 2--Justin Savitt of Central Valley Cleveland singled home the winning run with two out in a three-run fifth inning in a District 20 game at Cleveland High.

Central Valley Cleveland (8-5) tied the game, 2-2, in the fifth with a two-out, two-run home run by Max Santillan.

Right-hander Marshall Plouffe (3-1) struck out eight and did not allow a walk or an earned run while pitching a seven-hitter but took the loss for Encino Crespi (11-2).

Canyon Country Canyon 7, Calabasas 5--Matt Palmer's three-run home run in the sixth lifted Canyon Country Canyon (7-7) to a District 20 victory over Calabasas (7-6) at Calabasas High.

Rick Stockton hit two doubles, Chaney Sheffield had a triple and John Voita hit a two-run home run for Calabasas.

West Hills Chaminade 15, Van Nuys Grant 5--Jonathan Higashi had three hits and four RBIs, and Ryan Soroka had two hits and two RBIs for West Hills Chaminade in a District 20 game that was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule at Grant High.

Soroka hit a two-run home run in a four-run third inning as West Hills Chaminade (8-6) took a 12-5 lead.

Jeremy Feldman hit a two-run single for Van Nuys Grant (3-11) in a five-run second inning.

Valley Chatsworth 11, Saugus 0--Chad Redfern had three doubles, two walks and two RBIs for Valley Chatsworth (8-2) in a District 20 victory over Saugus (9-6) at Saugus High.

Ryan Robbins (2-0) struck out four and walked one in five innings for Valley Chatsworth. Mike Kunes hit his first home run.

San Fernando 12, Sunland Tujunga Verdugo Hills 4--Simon Arredondo pitched a five-hitter and San Fernando (2-11) scored nine runs in the first inning en route to a District 20 victory at San Fernando.

Arredondo (1-3) struck out 11, allowing six walks and three earned runs.

San Fernando sent 14 batters to the plate in the first inning, when Efrain Camargo had two hits and two RBIs and Antonio Mascorro also drove in two runs.

Ojai 2, Ventura 1--Matt Alonzo (2-0) pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks, and had three hits for Ojai (9-3) in a District 16 game at Ventura College.

David Chaparro had two hits, including a double to drive in Josh Brousseau with the decisive run with two out in the fourth inning.

Santa Susana 9, Oxnard 1--Andy Karp pitched a six-hitter and Tony Ortega, Andy Gerber, Brandon Voorhees and Steve Glore hit doubles for Santa Susana in a District 16 defeat of Oxnard (3-9) at Channel Islands High.
