Lillyman Temporarily Fills His Old UCI Post

June 30, 1998|JOHN CANALIS

William J. Lillyman, a 28-year UC Irvine faculty member, will temporarily become the executive vice chancellor, a position he held for six years in the 1970s and 1980s.

Appointed by Chancellor Ralph Cicerone, Lillyman will fill the position until university administrators redefine the duties and search for a permanent administrator.

He replaces Sidney H. Golub, executive vice chancellor since 1994, who is stepping down to return to his faculty position at the UCI College of Medicine.

The vice chancellor serves as the campus' chief academic and budget officer.

Since stepping down as executive vice chancellor in 1988, he has taught in the German department.

He has held several positions in university administration, including dean of humanities and vice chancellor for academic affairs.

Lillyman is a renowned scholar of German Romanticism and is well-known by students as the instructor who teaches a popular course on Romantic fairy tales.
