USC REPORT

Olson Has Aces to Trump Bibby

March 05, 1998|GREG SANDOVAL

USC Coach Henry Bibby has started 11 players this season, while Arizona Coach Lute Olson has started only six.

While Bibby has continually mixed and matched his lineups in search of a winning combination, Olson has had the luxury of knowing that his top six players were good enough to win an NCAA championship last season.

Even with such a strong core, the Wildcats utilize three reserves: junior guard Jason Terry, sophomore forward Eugene Edgerson and junior center Donnell Harris, who each average more than 10 minutes a game.

Bibby has compared this Arizona team to some of the best college teams in the last 25 years. Currently, the Wildcats lead the Pacific 10 Conference in scoring (90.5 points), field-goal percentage (51.2%) and margin of victory (16.9 points).
