March 06, 1998| From Associated Press

Jason Allison beat goaltender Martin Brodeur with a great move 3:34 into the third period to give the Boston Bruins a 1-1 tie with the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night at East Rutherford, N.J.

Allison took a pass from Dmitri Khristich, skated around defenseman Scott Stevens at the blue line, then faked Brodeur to the ice. His backhander ricocheted off Brodeur's back, the goal post, back off the goaltender's hip and into the net for his 25th goal.

Ottawa 4, Colorado 2--Goals by Denny Lambert, Bruce Gardiner, Chris Murray and Wade Redden enabled the Senators to move four points ahead of the New York Rangers for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with the victory at Kanata, Canada.

St. Louis 4, Montreal 0--Jamie McLennan stopped 17 shots for his first career shutout as the Blues beat the Canadiens for their fourth victory in a row, in front of 20,409 at St. Louis. Brett Hull had a goal and two assists.

Philadelphia 3, Washington 2--Chris Gratton and Rod Brind'Amour each had a goal and an assist as the Flyers edged the struggling Capitals at Philadelphia. Eric Lindros also scored for the Flyers, who extended the Capitals' winless streak to eight games.

Chicago 2, Pittsburgh 2--The Penguins' Ron Francis scored his second goal of the game late in the third period to earn the tie, but Pittsburgh was denied the victory at home when Chicago goaltender Jeff Hackett made a game-saving stop with 10 seconds left, sprawling to the right of the cage to block Martin Straka's shot.

Calgary 6, Vancouver 2--The Flames got goals from six players as they rolled over the Canucks at Calgary.

San Jose 5, Detroit 4--Patrick Marleau's rebound shot broke the tie with 14:03 remaining as the Sharks won at home.
