Nuclear Workers Buy Computers for Club

March 10, 1998|SUSAN DEEMER

Employees of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station have purchased 12 personal computers for children and teens who attend the Boys & Girls Club of Capistrano Valley.

The mostly Latino club, established three years ago at 31371 El Camino Real, has been struggling to find private funding for its programs, spokesman Mike Jacobs said.

The new computers will be split between a teen homework network and a learning activity center for younger children. There are also plans for a teen mentoring program.

"The important thing is that we're going to reach kids before they fall behind the curve," said James L. Williams, executive director of the club.

"If we favorably alter the course of just one kid's life it will be worth it."
