Junior League Renovates School Library, Computer Center

March 10, 1998

Madison Elementary School has reopened a library and computer center after a renovation financed by the Junior League of Pasadena.

In an unprecedented move, the league selected the school as the sole recipient of all of its volunteer services for this year. Usually the organization gives small grants to individual community organizations. But this year, the league decided to provide a $280,000 grant and 90 volunteers to the school, which is in a predominantly Latino community.

The new computer center has 32 state-of-the art personal computers. School district officials said the facility is designed to be a meeting place for the community. It will be open to the public in the evening and will offer child-care services.
