Bringing City Back to the Roaring '20s

March 18, 1998|PHIL DAVIS

The Seal Beach Historical and Cultural Society will be taking a trip back to the Roaring '20s at its meeting next week.

Unlike the quiet seaside community it is today, Seal Beach in the 1920s was a hotbed of illegal booze, prostitutes and gambling--a playground for the rich and famous, according to historians. Longtime residents will share their tales of marathon dances, colorful figures and a wild roller coaster.

The meeting is at 7:30 p.m. March 26 at the Mary Wilson Library Senior Center, 707 Electric Ave.

Admission is free.
