Shontell Sherwood, an assistant coach on Costa Mesa's state finals girls' basketball team of 1993 and its head coach the last two seasons, has resigned to concentrate on her work as a detective with the Newport Beach Police Dept.

Costa Mesa was 13-15 this past season but shared the Pacific Coast League title with an 8-2 record. Sherwood's record as coach was 33-29; she took over the program with eight games left in the 1995-96 season.
