City to Convert 6th Vacant Lot Into Park

What was once a blighted, weed-strewn vacant lot at Alondra Boulevard and Gundry Avenue is being converted into a small park as part of Paramount's beautification plan.

"We are very sensitive in our city to blight and the way we look," Assistant City Manager Linda Benedetti-Leal said. "It's nice to have soft green areas in an urban environment."

For the past three years, the city has turned unsightly vacant lots owned by individuals into grassy oases until the lots are sold. Converting each lot costs up to $10,000.

The lot at Alondra and Gundry is the sixth to be converted. Two more lots on Paramount Boulevard are scheduled for rehabilitation.
