Man Gets 5 Years in Cosby Extortion Case

March 20, 1998|From Times Wire Reports

A man involved in a plot to extort $40 million from Bill Cosby was sentenced to five years and three months in prison. Jose Medina, 54, told the judge that he provided Autumn Jackson and Antonay Williams with a place to stay because Jackson's mother had asked him to help her. But Judge Barbara Jones said Medina was "far too enmeshed in this scheme" and sentenced him. Medina and Jackson faxed a demand for money to prevent Jackson from publicly naming Cosby as her out-of-wedlock father. The actor has denied that he is her father, but he admitted he once had a relationship with her mother. Medina was convicted last July of extortion, conspiracy and crossing state lines to commit a crime.
