Santa Ana Rallies to Edge Golden West, Stop Skid

Santa Ana scored six runs in the eighth inning, capped by Cory Williams' two-run single, to lead Santa Ana to an 8-7 victory over host Golden West Saturday in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game.

Reggie Nelson's two-run triple tied the score, 6-6, for Santa Ana (20-6, 7-5), which stopped a three-game losing streak.

Williams and Nelson finished with two hits and three RBIs each for Santa Ana.

Kevin Stuart was three for four with a solo homer in the fifth for Golden West (12-10, 5-7).

Josh Roberts was three for five with a three-run homer in the seventh inning that increased the Rustlers' lead to 6-2.

In other Orange Empire Conference baseball games:

Riverside 5, Cypress 4--Chris Taylor scored the go-ahead run on Geoffrey Bajenaru's single in the bottom of the seventh for first-place Riverside (18-4, 8-2).

Nate Endicott had three hits, an RBI and a run for Cypress (13-12, 6-6).

Saddleback 16, Fullerton 2--Kirk Bolling had four hits and four RBIs for visiting Saddleback.

In nonconference baseball:

Orange Coast 8, East Los Angeles 6 (10)--Darren Chandler scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning on John Lukin's RBI single.

Chandler, who had reached base on a leadoff double, had four hits and three RBIs for Orange Coast (11-11).

In the Cuesta Invitational swim meet:

Golden West women finish first--Golden West scored 430 points, 44 1/2 points ahead of second-place Orange Coast.

Rita Mariani of Golden West won the 100-meter backstroke (1:00.71) and the 200-meter individual medley (2:09.74.

Golden West men finish first--Golden West won seven of eight events to finish with a score of 658 points to easily defeat second-place Diablo Valley (514). Orange Coast (311) finished fourth.

Felix Sutanto of Golden West won the 1,650 freestyle (16:57.62) and the 200 backstroke (1:52.32).
