Trustees to Consider Updating Class Heaters

March 24, 1998|JOHN CANALIS

New heaters will be installed throughout the Fountain Valley School District under a $1.15-million contract that will be considered this week by trustees.

In some schools, the heaters are as much as 30 years old, officials said.

"They're as old as the schools themselves," said Patrick Quinn, director of facilities for the district. "This year we're replacing every unit that hasn't been touched."

Some heaters have been replaced or repaired over the years but there are still 450 to 500 units needed districtwide, Quinn said. Each classroom has its own heater and controls.

The work, part of $7 million in improvements planned by the district, would be funded with a budget surplus, Supt. Marc Ecker said. Other repairs include replacing roofing and electrical wiring.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Education Center boardroom, 17210 Oak St.
