A storm from the Gulf of Alaska could bring the snow level in Ventura County as low as 2,500 feet this weekend.

A storm watch will be in effect today and Saturday for the mountain areas. Snow levels will begin to drop to 3,000 feet by early Saturday, with dusting at 2,500 feet.

Weather forecasters predict 8 to 12 inches of snow at resort levels.

Winds Saturday are expected to be between 25 and 35 mph, bringing the wind chill above 3,000 feet to between -10 degrees and 10 degrees in all mountain ranges between San Luis Obispo and San Diego.

On the coast, there will be a 30% chance of rain by late afternoon today. That chance will increase to 60% tonight and 70% by Saturday morning, with afternoon thunderstorms predicted.

Winds on Saturday should gust up to 30 mph.

One-half to 1 inch of rain is predicted on the coast, with 2 to 3 inches in low mountain regions.
