March 28, 1998|STEVE CARNEY

An exhibition by 19th century English photographer Eadweard Muybridge will open next week at the Orange County Museum of Art.

Muybridge, who died in 1904 at age 74, is most famous for his groundbreaking photographic series of running horses, people and other subjects that revealed the anatomy of bodies in motion.

On display next week will be 121 rare photographs he shot in Central America in 1875 and 1876, including church ruins in Panama, the Panama City harbor, landscapes near Guatemalan coffee plantations and workers bathing in streams.

The exhibit runs April 4 to June 21. The museum also is offering photographic workshops and discussions of Muybridge's work.

The museum, 850 San Clemente Drive, Newport Beach, is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and students; museum members and children younger than 16 get in free.

Information: (714) 759-1122.
