A second-story fire in a Huntington Beach apartment complex Thursday left six people homeless and killed a cat, fire authorities said.
Thirty-two firefighters from the Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley fire departments responded to the Huntington Beach Continental Apartment Complex in the 1700 block of Springdale Street just after 5:30 p.m.
The fire, which began in an apartment and damaged three others units, was contained in 35 minutes and is still under investigation, authorities said.
The occupant of the apartment where the fire started was treated at Columbia Huntington Beach Hospital and Medical Center for smoke inhalation, and his cat was found dead.
The six people left homeless were placed in temporary housing by the management of the apartment complex and the American Red Cross.
