Cowsill Makes a Quick Impact

Brendon Cowsill (Crescenta Valley High) has two saves in two appearances since being promoted to Lake Elsinore by the Angels last week.

The 23-year-old converted infielder is the son of Paul Cowsill, a member of the popular singing group of the 1960s and '70s, The Cowsills.

The right-hander, a 34th-round selection in 1993, was 1-0 with one save and a 2.45 earned-run average for Cedar Rapids before the promotion.

At Lake Elsinore, Cowsill has struck out three, walked two and allowed one hit in 3 2/3 innings.


Former JetHawk Shawn Buhner has been selected the Southern League's player of the week.

Buhner, the younger brother of Mariner All-Star Jay Buhner, had six doubles, two home runs, nine runs batted in and hit .500 for Orlando, the Mariners' double-A affiliate.


Triple-A--Former JetHawk Shane Monahan had a two-run single for Tacoma (Mariners) in a 12-4 victory over Albuquerque. J.P. Roberge (St. Francis High) had an RBI single for Albuquerque.

Double-A--Will Skett (Reseda High, Valley College) had two hits for Knoxville (Blue Jays) in a 7-2 victory over Mobile. Mike Rossiter (Burroughs High) pitched 4 1/3 innings of two-hit, shutout relief for Mobile (Padres). . . . Adam Kennedy (Cal State Northridge) hit his second home run for Arkansas (Cardinals) in a 9-6 victory over El Paso. . . . Jon Tucker (Chatsworth High) had two hits and two RBIs for San Antonio (Dodgers) in an 8-2 victory over Shreveport. . . . David Lamb (Newbury Park High) had two hits for Bowie (Orioles) in a 5-2 loss to Norwich. . . . Dan Cey (El Camino Real High) had two hits for New Britain (Twins) in a 6-2 victory over New Haven.

Class-A--Jon Schaeffer (Harvard-Westlake High) hit his 11th double for Fort Wayne (Twins) in a 6-1 loss to Rockford. . . . Eric Cole (Antelope Valley High, Antelope Valley College) had two hits and an RBI for Quad City (Astros) in a 9-6 loss to Clinton. . . . Kurt Airoso (Cal State Northridge) had two hits for Lakeland (Tigers) in a 13-6 loss to St. Petersburg. . . . Keith Evans (Crespi High) yielded five runs, but struck out six in five innings to improve to 4-1 for Jupiter (Expos) in a 9-5 victory over Dunedin. . . . Robert Crabtree (Cal State Northridge) struck out three in 1 2/3 innings and lowered his ERA to 1.69 for San Jose (Giants) in a 5-1 loss to Stockton.
