Register Gets New Chief

Ron Redfern has been named president and chief operating officer of the Orange County Register.

Redfern, 51, succeeds John Schueler, who resigned last month to become publisher of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Redfern most recently was senior vice president of sales and marketing.

He joined the Register in 1991 when the newspaper bought Golden West Publishing, a group of 23 weekly newspapers in Los Angeles and Orange counties, from Media General Inc. He was senior vice president and chief operating officer.
