U.S. Reduces Military Power in Gulf Region

The United States, which sent dozens of extra bombers and thousands of personnel to the Persian Gulf during a crisis with Iraq in February, has begun withdrawing the additional forces. The military reduction in the Gulf reflected an assessment that the crisis has subsided now that Baghdad has agreed to cooperate with U.N. arms inspectors, according to Defense Secretary William S. Cohen.
