Cuesta Ends Ventura Streak at 42

Cuesta College scored early in the second half and snapped Ventura's 42-match Western State Conference unbeaten streak, 1-0, in women's soccer on Tuesday at Ventura College.

Stephanie Little scored in the 46th minute for the Cougars.

Goalkeeper Nicole Straky made five saves for Ventura (16-1-3, 14-1-1).

Ventura's conference unbeaten streak dated to 1996, starting after a loss to Cuesta.


Cal Lutheran 3, Redlands 0--Oskar Kantoft scored two goals for the Kingsmen (13-5, 8-1) in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament game at Cal Lutheran.


El Camino Real 5, Taft 2--The Conquistadores won three sets in tiebreakers to earn a split of the season series with the Toreadors (4-7, 3-1) and tie for the West Valley League title at Taft.

Hee Young Chun and Victoria Wong of El Camino Real (5-6, 3-1), won their tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles, 7-0.

Campbell Hall 12, Buckley 6--Emily Abrams and Stephanie Karapetian (43-2) swept at No. 1 doubles and the Vikings completed their best regular season with a Delphic League victory at Studio City Golf and Tennis.

Melissa Nguyen (42-0) swept at No. 1 singles for Campbell Hall (13-2, 6-2).


Marmonte League Match No. 3--Julie McKenna of Newbury Park shot one-over-par 36 at Simi Hills Golf Course for a three-round total of 122 and an 11-stroke lead over Becca Norris of Thousand Oaks with one round to play.

Norris shot 41 and teammate Kelly Struyck shot 42 as the Lancers totaled 129 to extend their lead to 39 strokes over Newbury Park and Moorpark.


Glendale 23, Hoover 8--Joao Cepeda had seven goals for the Dynamiters, who reached the Pacific League tournament final and clinched a share of their first title since 1979 at Arcadia High.

Glendale (16-4, 6-0) can win the league title outright by defeating Crescenta Valley on Thursday.
