School Board Happy About Bond Passage

November 12, 1998|MICHAEL GOTTLIEB

Not surprisingly, the Conejo Valley school board--in its first meeting after a multimillion-dollar school bond finally passed--expressed relief and satisfaction with last week's election.

"Nov. 3, 1998, will long be remembered," said Jerry Gross, superintendent of the Conejo Valley Unified School District. Alice Humbertson, chairwoman of the campaign in support of the $88-million Measure R, was recognized by board members Tuesday for helping make the district's third attempt to pass the bond successful.

Humbertson thanked the more than 400 volunteers and donors who supported the campaign, which raised more than $100,000. She also praised the nearly 27,000 people in the district who voted for the measure, which will require homeowners to pay about $24 per $100,000 of the assessed value of their property to cover the cost of the bonds, for the next 15 to 25 years.

The board also renewed a $30,450 retainer agreement with the law firm of Liebert, Cassidy and Frierson to represent the district in employee contract negotiations.
