Royal 43, Simi Valley 28--The Highlanders (4-6, 2-4) retained city bragging rights for the second consecutive year, beating rival Simi Valley before an estimated crowd of 6,800 at Moorpark College.

Royal scored on its first three possessions, building a 15-0 lead five minutes, 35 seconds into the game.

Royal committed six turnovers, but was led by quarterback Dustin Cruz, who completed 11 of 21 for 216 yards with two interceptions. He had touchdown passes of 14 and 16 yards to Kevin Krause, and a 16-yard touchdown to Ricky Palacios.

Simi Valley (3-7, 2-4) was led by quarterback Tim Bird, who completed 18 of 39 for 263 yards and three touchdowns, but had three passes intercepted.

Pioneer receiver Kenny Davis caught touchdown passes of 43 and two yards, and had seven receptions for 107 yards.

Royal running back Steve Sheehan rushed for 92 yards in 15 carries.
