GOP Governors Seek Larger Role

Less than two weeks after Republicans made a poorer-than-expected showing in midterm elections, the party's state governors are pressing for a bigger role in defining its national message during the run-up to the next presidential election. Wisconsin Gov. Tommy G. Thompson and others at a National Governors' Assn. meeting that wrapped up in Wilmington, Del., said the next Republican nominee for president should be one of their own. Speculation has centered on Texas Gov. George W. Bush, son of the former president, who won reelection with 69% of the vote.
