LOS ANGELES — Saying that financial losses at the Los Angeles Community College District "seem to have been reversed," California Community Colleges Chancellor Thomas J. Nussbaum held a joint news conference with district officials Wednesday to applaud projections of an $8.3-million surplus in the current year's budget.
"We can't declare the district off the watch list. . . . But this is a very important beginning," Nussbaum said, speaking at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College. Nussbaum and several members of the state Board of Governors toured campuses and met with Los Angeles trustees during a daylong visit to the district.
