Board to Consider Expelling 2 Students

November 24, 1998|MICHAEL GOTTLIEB

Sticking with its "zero tolerance" policy, the Conejo Valley school board is scheduled this evening to expel a student over bringing a weapon to Thousand Oaks High School.

The Conejo Valley Unified School District's Board of Education is also set to consider expelling a student from Los Cerritos Middle School who is being investigated on suspicion of sexual battery.

At Thousand Oaks High, the student brought a box cutter from work to school.

In both instances, the board is expected to recommend the students be expelled for a full year, the strongest punishment the district can issue. They would not be eligible to reapply until June 18.

"We are not trying to keep the [students] from receiving an education. We are trying to keep the campus safe for everyone," said Richard Simpson, assistant superintendent of instructional services. We usually find some way a student can continue his education."
