Jeri Costello, a 5-8 guard at Brea Olinda, has signed to play women's basketball at Long Beach State, 49er Coach Dallas Boychuk said. Costello, who averaged six points, seven rebounds and five assists, helped Brea to the state Division II title and the Southern Section Division II-AA title.

Mike Zepeda, a 6-foot-9 senior center, signed to attend UC Riverside, Century High boys' basketball Coach Greg Coombs said. Zepeda averaged 14.4 points and 10.3 rebounds last season.

Nate Endicott, a sophomore infielder from Cypress College who also played at Cypress High, has signed to play at Oral Roberts.

Softball players Crystal Eubanks from Kennedy and Jill Jessen from El Dorado recently signed with four-year colleges. Eubanks will attend Long Island, and Jessen, a second-team All-Empire League selection last spring, will attend Southern California College.

Anna Jones of Calvary Chapel signed to play softball at Wisconsin, Calvary Chapel Coach Rose Imbriano said. Jones, a center fielder who hit .426 last season, was an All-Olympic League selection the last two years.

Irvine High swimmer Morgan Hoesterey has orally committed to Hawaii, said Dave Salo, Hoesterey's Irvine Novaquatics coach.

Hoesterey has been on two Times all-county teams. In 1997 she was part of Irvine's 400 yard freestyle relay team, and last spring she was part of Irvine's 200 free relay team.

In addition, Salo said, Orange High swimmer Shannon Flahive orally committed to Texas A & M next fall. Flahive has qualified for the 2000 Olympic trials in the 200-meter breaststroke.

Charlene Conley, a junior at UC Santa Barbara, was among seven players selected to the 1998 GTE/CoSIDA Women's Volleyball Academic All-America District VIII first team.

Conley, who led Orange High to an unbeaten regular season as a senior in 1994, was a Times Orange County second-team selection that year. She is an environmental studies major at UCSB with a 3.67 grade-point average.
