St. Bernard 20, Nordhoff 7--The Rangers couldn't stop Jeff Brown on a short fourth-down pass near the end of the first half, shifting the momentum to the Vikings, who scored the last 20 points at St. Bernard.

On fourth and 13 from the Nordhoff 25-yard line, Brown caught Jamie Brooks' pass and was nearly stopped short of the first down. But he escaped two Ranger defenders and raced into the end zone for the tying touchdown.

"We didn't wrap up," Coach Cliff Farrar of Nordhoff said. "We've been working on that since the first day of practice. All we have to do is tackle [Brown] and we go into the locker room up, 7-0. That was a killer."

St. Bernard (8-3), champion of the Camino Real League, took the lead for good on its opening possession of the second half, marching 69 yards in 12 plays, culminating with Miguel Carranza's 26-yard field goal.

On Nordhoff's ensuing possession, quarterback Brandon Titus fumbled when sacked by linebacker Herman Jones. Michel Valenzuela recovered and ran 23 yards for a touchdown.

Carranza added a 29-yard field goal with 1:55 to play.

The Rangers (7-5) opened the scoring on Titus' 43-yard bootleg runto the end zone with half a second remaining in the first quarter.

Brown rushed for 146 yards in 33 carries and St. Bernard out-gained Nordhoff, 281-126.

Titus completed only one of 10 passes for three yards.

Joey Briglio rushed for 80 yards in 14 carries for the Rangers.
