Oh, That Aching Back--Forget the Gimmicks and Find Yourself a Chiropractor

October 01, 1998

Regarding "Making Your Drive Less of a Back Pain" [Good Carma, by Kathleen Doheny, Aug. 27]:

Maybe it is too early yet and I am feeling not yet fully inflated, or more likely, I have witnessed another slighting by the L.A. Times.

Please do not misunderstand. The article was fairly good and accurate, even though items at Relax the Back Store are severely overpriced and all cars, new and old, have inadequate lumbar support. The Sacro-Ease does not do the job, and those beady-type seats are not designed to support the back but to stimulate it.

My questions? When will consumers get the support they deserve from the newspaper they read for the choices they make? Consumers already know that chiropractors are back specialists and utilize them for that purpose more readily than any other single professional group for that purpose. Researchers know, and their papers reflect their knowledge.
