Irvine (3-0) vs. No. 3 Mater Dei (2-1)

7 TONIGHT SANTA ANA STADIUM

Irvine isn't the kind of opponent Mater Dei wants to catch on the rebound after the Monarchs' 28-21 loss to Concord De La Salle last Saturday at Edison Field. The Vaqueros have outscored their opponents, 98-14, and haven't given up more than a touchdown in any game. Senior quarterback Sean Van de Merghel has completed 60% of his passes and his wide receivers are averaging 13 yards per catch. Defensively, the Vaqueros have four interceptions, including two by Jessob Reisbeck. However, Mater Dei, with its size advantage, particularly on the lines, will be tough to push around.
