Antelope Valley Loses Steam, Game

Football: Antelopes keep pace with Dominguez in first half before falling, 35-21.

COMPTON — In a rematch of last season's Division II quarterfinal game, Antelope Valley High came up short against Dominguez, 35-21, in a nonleague game Friday night at Dominguez.

In what started as an offensive shootout, the teams traded touchdowns for the first half.

Dominguez (3-1) dominated the second half, capitalizing twice after long, time-consuming drives.

JaJuan Doakes scored on a 28-yard pass from Smith to give the Dons a 28-21 lead late in the third quarter.

Moments later, Dominguez fumbled a punt inside its 20 and the Antelopes (0-3-1) recovered but could not score.

The Dons put the game out of reach midway through the fourth quarter when Floyd Tutt scored on a 59-yard run.

Dominguez scored first on a 33-yard run by Johnny Bentley in the first quarter.

Antelope Valley answered on the ensuing possession when Michael Place found Jonathan Molock on a 22-yard pass, tying the score, 7-7.

Bentley scored again on a 33-yard pass from Everett Smith to put the Dons ahead, 14-7, midway through the quarter.

The Antelopes responded on Bruce Molock's 47-yard run.

Trailing 21-14 in the second quarter, Bruce Molock returned a kickoff 55 yards, setting up his own 10-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter to tie the score, 21-21.

Bruce Molock finished with 233 yards in 24 carries and two touchdowns. The Antelopes were unable to establish the passing game, as Place completed only three of 11 attempts for 34 yards and one touchdown.

The Dons had 327 yards rushing, led by Bentley's 128 yards in 20 carries. He scored three times.
