3 Men Held in Raid on Alleged Cocaine Ring

October 10, 1998

Drug enforcement investigators have arrested three cocaine traffickers, breaking up a drug operation believed to be responsible for distributing 200 kilograms of cocaine per month, authorities said Friday.

The men arrested operated out of homes in Sylmar and San Fernando, federal authorities said.

Jose Luis Moreno, 21, is accused of running the operation, according to court documents. Jose L. Salazar, 24, was also arrested. Sotero Orona Guzman, 37, is accused of buying 39 kilograms of cocaine from Moreno and his associates, according to court documents.

The investigation was conducted by the Southern California Drug Task Force--officers from the federal Drug Enforcement Administration--assisted by the Sheriff's Department and the South Gate Police Department.

The three men were charged in federal court and are being held without bond. They are charged with possession and conspiracy to distribute cocaine, authorities said.
