GLENDALE — Quarterback Joe Kroells of Burroughs High is nearsighted and was fitted for contact lenses this week.

He won't receive them until next week, but his vision seemed to be perfect in the Indians' 32-27 victory Friday night over Crescenta Valley at Glendale High.

Kroells, a junior, completed 16 of 28 passes for 297 yards and two touchdowns and the Indians (3-2) held off Crescenta Valley (3-2) in a nonleague football game.

Burroughs ran off 24 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a 24-7 lead at halftime before Crescenta Valley narrowed the deficit to 24-21 in the third quarter.

The Falcons closed it to 24-14 on a one-yard run by Derrel Furutani midway through the third quarter.

After Kroells lost a fumble on the next play from scrimmage for Burroughs, Crescenta Valley scored three plays later on a 10-yard pass from Seth Santoro to Steve Rigamat.

But Burroughs seized control again after that thanks to Kroells and wide receiver Kyle Cremarosa.

After Cremarosa's 28-yard punt return late in the third quarter gave Burroughs the ball at the Crescenta Valley 30.

It only took two plays for Kroells and Cremarosa to connect for a touchdown, a 19-yard pass play, and they hooked up again for a two-point conversion.
